In Gav’s practice of somatic figurative line drawing, he blends physical awareness with expressive mark-making. With a focus on the body’s movements and sensations, Gav uses continuous, flowing lines to capture the essence of human and animal forms. This approach allows him to connect his internal experiences with the visual outcome, creating an organic, unfiltered representation of the figure. Gav believes that somatic drawing encourages presence and mindfulness, as one can let their body’s natural rhythms guide the hand. The resulting work reflects a dynamic interplay between movement, emotion, and form, offering a unique and expressive depiction of the human body. Figurative drawings often are a visual representation of conversations and can also be used as almost an infographic record of meetings, presentations, key note talks or social engagements.

Gav’s figurative animal paintings are some of his most iconic and well-known works. The skill and attention required to pour perfectly imperfect arcs of paint while giving each animal its own recognisable characteristics sets Gav’s work aside from others.

Gav’s Eagle figurative work was featured on the television series Nine Perfect Strangers, featuring Nicole Kidman (Masha). The painting in Masha’s office “relayed her crazy mind swirling around and her eagle eye,” says set decorator Glen W. Johnson.
