dimensional you workshop
Radius Gallery, Hepburn, 23rd November 2024
The third of Gav’s Dimensional You workshops was held at the lovely Radius Gallery (76 Main Road Hepburn) on a warm Saturday morning. Welcoming all ages from all walks of life and a spread of disciplines, Gav stepped participants through a set of somatic breathing exercises and invited everyone to open themselves up to movement and their inner being. For the duration of the workshop, mark-making to expressive dance and movement was encouraged, resulting in a multi-faceted ‘coming-together’ of our creative spirits in a colourful and layered piece.
Gav led us through several activities such as observational line drawings of other participants, with many of our pieces capturing surprising inner qualities of both our own minds and the minds of the subjects. Blind-folded mark-making further increased our senses of selves, our inner monologues and how we perceive our feelings and defining qualities.
A shared organic lunch full of fresh fruits and veggies set in the beautiful Hepburn outdoors broke up our day of creation, a day of connection and revelation. After our break, Gav led us through nature play, where we used gathered and found organic matter such as leaves, flowers, shells and sticks to construct a portrait or sculpture of ourselves, either as a literal or figurative representation. The afternoon was wrapped up with more somatic movement, dancing and mark-making, before a quick dip in Daylesford’s gorgeous lake - it was a perfect end to a very warm day!
